CORK CITY will be festooned with Fine Art Prints during the Cork Midsummer Festival which takes place this year in the last week of June. A trail of print exhibitions will stretch across the city in such notable locations as the Atrium at Cork City Hall, the CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery, the Foyer of the Glucksman Gallery, the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, the Triskel Arts Centre and in the Cork Printmakers Studio where its Director Valerie Byrne is stirring up all this printable activity. The big attraction for printmakers everywhere is the two-day symposium to be held in the City Hall on 23/24 June which will be addressed by such internationalists as Susan Tallman (editor of Art in Print, Chicago), Leonie
Bradley, (editor of Printmaking Today) Michael Kempson, (Director of Cicada Press, Sydney,) Jason Urban and Leslie Mutchler, (University of Texas). There will also be presentations by the other six largest print studios in Ireland: Graphic Studio Dublin, Black Church Print Studio, Limerick Printmakers, Galway Print Studio, Belfast Print Studio and the Seacourt Centre in Bangor.

Cork Printmakers has over one hundred members, some more engaged than others but all using their cooperative facilities for printmaking in intaglio, screen printing, lithography, letterpress, relief and digital printing. It also runs courses for both beginners and experienced printmakers and is closely linked to the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design.
Reproduced above are some recent works by members. Eileen Kennedy’s Garden from the Studio is a stone lithograph; Johnny Bugler’s Run Boys Run is a photopolymer etching; Jo Kelley’s Mabel Street is a screen print although she works also in lithograph, etching and mezzotint; and David Lilburn’s Wild Thing Kinsale is his trade mark drypoint and watercolour. Lilburn, whose mapping prints are well known to IAR readers (see IAR Summer 2014) is also a member of the Limerick Printmakers. JM
