The past is present in the Irish landscape. But the future is too. From colonisation to the Famine, from the Land League to the Celtic Tiger, Ireland has a long, complicated history with its land.
Not only do we continue to face similar land issues today – the absentee landlords of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have been replaced by vulture funds – the climate and ecological crisis also looms over our heads. These problems do not give us much hope for the future.
This project utilises visual communication in both print and digital forms in order to investigate, explore and decode the past and our own current cultural perceptions and prejudices, while also beginning to imagine better futures for the land and for the people.
