My practice is concerned with addressing the intersection of bodily engagements and material entanglements. I am interested in probing the relationship between contemporary sculptural practices and performativity, and the work I produce is often dictated by and through the body. My most recent work, Plasma and Ore, seeks to question quiet discomforts of the body and identity within a queer context, responding to the legacy of discourse on queer bodies. The language used to describe the complexities of queer identities within texts such as Michel Foucault’s Utopian Body, manifests in this work as sculptural forms. Plasma and Ore looks to the potential of materials such as clay and steel as a means of establishing a location for the viewer to ruminate on their own bodies and identities, manifesting a queer contemplative space.
