I Shouldn't But I Have To TW: Sexual & Physical Abuse/Assault, Murder. My name is Grace and I am a documentary and portrait photographer. My work has feministic undertones that tackle taboos and injustices associated with women in particular. I like to make people get outside of their comfort zone and have uncomfortable conversations, this is how change happens in my eyes. I was deeply upset by the murder of Ashling Murphy, a 23 year old primary school teacher who was attacked and murdered on the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore on her daily run. Ashling’s death along with the history of violence against women in Ireland struck a chord with me and I felt compelled to spread awareness about what women must do in order to stay safe in this country and also their experiences with men making them feel uncomfortable and unsafe. This project is envisaged through the use of photographic prints and an audio experience.
