This body of figurative work focuses on theories of the gaze in imagery. The gaze is the act of looking and being looked back at. It is a systematic viewing structure that challenges and reflects the viewer’s perception of a particular scene and addresses the importance of framing. The work explores these ideas of a confronting, returned gaze with reference to portrait painting.
