The interest of the work lies in the examination of rural identity and is concerned with the rituals of life that give a temporal structure to a community. To articulate an understanding of how rituals are woven through the social and built fabric of a town, initial research focused on funeral rites in rural Ireland. My thesis project culminated in a built intervention in the new town of Shannon.
