Growing up, coming from an underprivileged background, I became interested in all that was seemingly out of my reach. Fascinated by streams of education that were atypical to my standing, I educated myself, developing a strong relationship to philosophy and a better understanding of the human condition. This manifests itself in a practice that is grounded in honest reflection, and from that reflection, attempts to transcend the often unseen barriers of our corporeal existence, internalized fears and traumas, constantly reaching beyond itself while never attempting to depict something outside of my own experience. This leads the paintings to embody the conflict I find in my desire to accurately picture the vessel through which I experience the world, the male figure, and my need for honest expression. As a young Irish artist, I am aware of my place in an Ireland post Catholicism. My work tends to look to religion and faith, in hopes of tracing something sacred, the something unknown.
