Celebrating 100 years since the first non-stop transatlantic flight, the ‘Alcock & Brown 100 Festival’ marks the achievements of aviation heroes Sir John Alcock and Sir Arthur Whitten-Brown, who successfully flew from Newfoundland, Canada to the Derrigimlagh Bog, just outside Clifden, in 1919. In addition to a programme of talks and screenings, an exhibition at the Art Space in Clifden library has paintings by Yvonne King which evoke a sense of the area that Alcock and Whitten-Brown landed in through paint, wood and canvas.
Alcock & Brown 100 Festival: 11 – 16 June; Yvonne King: 4 June – 30 August
