The 11th annual Culture Night will be held on 16 September, when cultural venues nationwide open their doors from 5pm-11pm for free visits, tours, workshops, readings, and performances. In Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons on St Stephens Green will host a 3D animated light show that will take viewers on a journey through the RCSI’s history from its foundation in 1784; Smithfield Square will present ‘Firefly’ a fire spectacle by Dublin Circus Project; and RTE Radio 1’s arts show Arena will be presented live from Dublin Castle with performances by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. In Cork the County Hall will host a Comic Art Exhibition and Q&A with the artists hosted by Marvel illustrator Will Sliney. In Wicklow, Ashford Studios – home to the History Channel series ‘Vikings – will host tours of its state-of-the-art film and television studios. In Kilkenny, Blackstack Studio will open to give visitors hands-on experience of engaging printing techniques. Letterkenny Town Park will premier Inishowen Carnival Group’s new work Elemental, a large-scale sculptural installation, with ambient music, lighting and a choreographed dance performance, featuring members of ZoNa Dance Company.
