‘Be Still, Life’ is the arresting title of Trudie Mooney’s exhibition at the Hamilton Gallery in Sligo town. This artist has consistently tried to convey a sense of tranquility in her paintings using simple jugs, bowls and stoneware. Through the careful arrangement of objects and using a somewhat muted palette, she seeks subtlety and balance. ‘While these aspects are still my primary concern, in the last year I have found myself leaning towards a wider colour range, more detailed designs and patterns and wanting to give a lighter atmosphere to some of the paintings,’ the artist elaborates. ‘Above all, I aim for calm, balance and serenity, to be still, life.’
