If you are a fan of abstract art then David Quinn’s current exhibition at the Taylor Galleries on Kildare Street Dublin is for you. David Quinn cites Cy Twombly and Robert Ryman as artistic influences and, closer to home, Charles Tyrrell. And something of Tyrrell’s Minimalist approach is also true of Quinn. They differ however in aim: where Charles Tyrrell values an unconditional two-dimensional ideal – Quinn brings a sculptural element to his abstracts with off-cuts and unusual formats or framing devices. His sensitivity to the inherent qualities of his materials, which range from acrylic glass to plywood, has been recognized by his selection for the Tony O’Malley residency 2015 – 2016, and recently Janet Mullarney selected him for an art project she is curating next year.
David Quinn ‘Seam’ until 14 November.
