Nature needs humans and humans need nature. We are interconnected. I am called to shed light on this fact, by incorporating this into my overall theme. I created an environment using glass; it is based on the idea of being immersed within nature. I use glass, as it is a symbol for both strength and fragility; as is nature. I have experienced first-hand that regular ‘Forest Bathing’ is healing and necessary to regulate the nervous system, a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle. The feelings attached to these moments evolve the work. Awe, Wonder, Hope and Peace; these emotions are regularly felt when time is spent here. Living rurally in North Cork, I have regular access to nature. It has facilitated my healing, while igniting a deeper connection between me and my environment. Ireland currently has only two percent of its native tree coverage, if this does not increase year by year; this magic energy will cease to exist. Without nature, how can we heal? A fragmented alder is found within, to symbolise this statistic. I feel it is important to use my artwork to highlight this message of awareness and positivity, in hopes that these ripples can grow, to influence others, and in time these percentages will hopefully increase, allowing generations who follow us to benefit from nature's magic, just like we have.
