I am Bray Zhang, a curious and determined fashion design graduate who specialises in smart-casual mens and womenswear; a take on strong, traditional silhouettes with a modern twist on attention to details. I am inspired by the deeper meaning beyond the surface which most people do not see. I believe negative space is just as important as positive space and that a good design is determined by a combination of complexity and balance. My most recent collection showcases the cultural conflicts of my upbringing, being born in Ireland but raised in a traditional Chinese household. I used coarse Irish tweed as the main fabric and rich Chinese silk as the inner lining. Despite the contrast of the two bold fabrics the result was a different yet familiar take on a tailored collection. I intend to showcase my tailoring background in my designs as I appreciate the precision and craftsmanship required but I also like to hybrid my tailoring skills with the couture style I adopted during my year abroad in Paris. Overall my approach to design is similar to my approach to life; have a goal, chase it, have fun, be great.
