CYCLICAL My work celebrates the heritage and community of the GAA, setting its deep-rooted traditions in contrast to the fleeting ethos of fast fashion. I am drawn to the cyclical nature of culture where returning to the origin can lead to renewal. I draw inspiration from the worn panels of old footballs and sliothars, each marked by the physical traces of play and competition. These details carry the passion and energy of the sport, which I aim to reflect throughout my work. I honour the past by preserving these elements and allowing their histories to remain visible while creating something new. Rooted in sustainability, my practice embraces zero-waste principles and values circularity, using discarded materials such as old footballs as a focal point in the design process. Guided by the stories embedded in these materials, I create garments that pay tribute to Irish culture while challenging the wastefulness of modern fashion. Like those before me who have balanced transformation with integrity, my work bridges tradition with contemporary consciousness, ensuring that the GAA’s enduring spirit continues to thrive through sustainable design. The cyclical, this return, this repetition is the ethos and backbone of my work. Through it, I ensure that the GAA’s enduring spirit not only survives, but evolves through sustainable design.
