My work titled "If these walls could talk, what stories they would tell" is a video-based exploration of my family’s history with substandard housing, offering insight into the complexities of working-class life. Through intimate interviews with my grandparents, the realities of their lived experiences and stories are presented to the viewer. This piece captures both the struggles and the resilience inherent in working-class existence. In addition to sharing these stories, I also reflect on my own experience of living in a flat with a fire defect, highlighting the ongoing failures of housing policies in Ireland that have affected my family across generations. My work honours the joy and community found within these narratives while serving as a stark reminder of the continual hardships faced by working-class and underserved communities. By promoting the concept of ethical remembrance, I invite viewers to consider the importance of preserving and reflecting on the stories and experiences of working-class communities.
