As an artist and educator, I value the opportunity to share stories with people. For me, embroidery offers an intimacy in story-telling - the needle and thread working symbiotically to express meaning. My practice involves using hand embroidery techniques on hand-dyed fabric. The selection of fabric and the process of infusing it with colour suggest fleeting moments where light and shadow collide. The fluid movement of fabric means the work is not static but always changing. I work in a slow, methodical way, with each stitch becoming a contemplative moment in time to consider the stories of the past, present, and future. This body of work is inspired by the unintentional marks we leave behind in and on the world–marks we often do not realise we are making–and how these contribute to the story we leave behind.
