Raised in an Irish household led by strong women, I witnessed firsthand the resilience and determination that shaped my understanding of strength. This upbringing forms the backbone of my creative practice. My work draws inspiration from David Kronn’s ability to capture identity in fleeting moments and Nell McCafferty’s fearless critique of gender inequality. These influences guide my use of photography and graphic design as tools to amplify the voices of women in traditionally male-dominated sports like Camogie and LGFA. Through striking visuals–dirt-streaked faces, powerful stares, and players behind helmets–I aim to reveal the raw, unfiltered resilience of female players. These images are intentionally bold and unglamorous, challenging raw portrayals of women in sport. Paired with assertive slogans, they confront audiences with both the reality of inequality and the strength it breeds. Inspired also by Lidl’s public support of women in sport, my work celebrates the communal spirit and unyielding pride that underpins female players identity. It is both a tribute and a call to action, spotlighting the grit and perseverance of these players while asking viewers to reflect on what still must change. Ultimately, my art is about visibility, justice, and honouring the legacy of women who rise, together and unapologetically.
