I’ve always been drawn to the strange edges of things; folklore, forgotten paths, half-told stories. This scroll is a love letter to all of that. It’s a hand-crafted piece that explores four mythical spiral beings through illustration and text, inviting the reader into imagined wildernesses that feel just slightly out of reach. I printed it on rice paper with swirling fibres and mounted it between two hazel sticks that I sourced and polished myself. The materials were important to me, I wanted the object itself to feel like something you might stumble across in the undergrowth, something made with care and curiosity. Each being is described through its habitat, diet, and behaviour, with a coordinate at the end of each section. My hope is that people might actually go out and try to find them, or at least spend a bit more time looking closely at the world around them. I love the idea of pulling people away from screens and into the wild, using story and play as a kind of gentle lure. This project is full of things I love: folklore, nature, whimsy, making things by hand. It’s an invitation to imagine and to go looking.
