I am a Belfast based Knitwear designer who has a concept driven approach to knitted fashion. Inspired by history and tradition, I enjoy approaching my projects with a central theme whether it be a period of time, a location or concept which I will research thoroughly before I translate my findings into artwork, then knitted samples which will inspire my garment designs that communicate tradition through a contemporary eye. My most recent collection ‘The Gothic Feminine’ showcases three bespoke women’s wear looks inspired by the Gothic Cathedrals of Armagh. I extracted the small details within the extravagant architecture that I feel best capture the feminine essence of Gothic. Using these details to inspire shape and pattern I constructed a knitwear collection reminiscent of medieval silhouettes embellished with chunky, braided seams, sparkly metallic yarns and elaborate surface pattern to add a contemporary twist.
