I am a video artist whose practice revolves around the problem of internet addiction and how that is perpetuated in today’s online world by the prioritisation of short form media. Through the mediums of stop motion and puppetry, he I uses brightly coloured characters and props to evoke a childlike feeling, commenting on the pandering of the internet to young children in an attempt to shorten their attention span and keep them online longer. Using my own experience growing up with constant access to the internet, my project ‘Joy Hotel’ is a multi channel video piece that acts as a surrealist representation of the stages I went through while falling into his dependence on and addiction to internet content. As it follows a character who finds themself in a hotel that provides constant amusement and slowly makes all forms of entertainment more palatable and pandered until it all feels the same.
