What’s the Big Hoo-Ha? is an educational campaign I created to challenge menstrual stigma through accessible education and open conversation. The campaign primarily supports first-time menstruators aged 12 and over, while also engaging parents, teachers, peers, and the wider public to encourage understanding and support. My aim is to normalise conversations around menstruation, empowering young people with the knowledge and confidence to discuss periods openly, free from embarrassment or shame. To achieve this, I use a range of touchpoints, including conversation cards used as an educational resource in classrooms, a website with a community section where questions can be posted and answered, social media where credible information is shown, public posters with bold messaging that tackles the stigma in an empathetic way, and campaign merchandise to spread the message. Each element is designed to spark discussion with information and make conversations about periods more approachable and accessible. The campaign’s friendly yet direct tone of voice encourages openness while making the subject feel less intimidating. Vibrant colours and expressive, imperfect illustrations reflect the emotions and experiences surrounding menstruation, helping audiences connect with the campaign on a personal level. By making menstrual stigma visible, I aim to challenge misconceptions and create a more informed, supportive, and inclusive conversation around periods.
