My work considers the historical and contemporary lived experience of Black women as both disregarded and commodified objects. My chosen medium, of raw, unwashed, sheep's fleece, which has little commercial value, the meat and lambs give the ewe status. With this material, I draw comparisons between the commodification of a sheep body as raw material and the traditional representation of Black women within the colonial sphere. One lives wholly unaware, the other painfully conscious of their perceived status. Their bodies unnamed, anonymous, silent, seen and unseen objects onto which value has historically been placed.
