Emotional Bodies - For this series of work I chose to only engrave on the glass. I think the glass engraving creates a soft, romantic look to my portraits. My theme consists of deep healing, self protection and self comfort. I chose red for most of my portraits to portray warmth, protection and tenderness. The colour red, to me, also represents femininity and the womb which is a place of complete safety, nurture and shelter. For me these themes connect to healing, as moments of loss make you want to return somewhere secure and comforting. The figures curled up on itself, rubbing their eyes, or fixing their hair reflects how the model is attempting to create comfort and gather themselves. I want the viewer to be transported back to a moment or memory in their life when there was a large amount of healing, self love and growth taking place. I want my viewers to also learn that through healing and rest you can slowly regain strength to enjoy living again.
