My name is August and I am a multidisciplinary artist from Dublin working across all mediums with a special interest in Fashion and Textiles. As a Queer and Disabled creative, my practice explores the relationship between the body, identity and emotion, using material experimentation and immersive storytelling to translate internal experiences into physical form. Combining traditional textile techniques with contemporary fashion design, I create work that exists between garment, performance and installation. My graduate collection, Until Devotion Devours, explores limerence as an all-consuming state in which desire evolves into obsession and possession becomes embodied. Informed by my lived experience with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, the work examines the psychosomatic effects of infatuation and the ways intense emotional attachment can distort perceptions of both body and self. Through exaggerated silhouettes, exposed cut-outs and contrasting materials including leather, knit, faux fur and mesh, the garments visualise the tension between vulnerability and control, intimacy and deterioration. Influenced by dark theatricality, fashion editorials, movement and the expressive potential of the body, the project extends beyond clothing into an immersive multimedia installation incorporating photography, moving image, sound and spatial design. Rather than presenting fashion as a finished object, I use it as a narrative device to invite viewers into a psychological landscape where devotion becomes corrosive, and the boundaries between flesh, emotion and identity begin to dissolve.
