Although I specialize in character design, makeup, and prosthetics for film, I wanted to create something more for my major project in college. I had an urge to tell this story and I went with it. Even though it felt risky at the time and was definitely a tricky one balancing the camera alongside doing makeup, costume (which both consisted of making pieces for) and director all at once! It was the best decision I could have made. My short film, Dúchas (2:30), explores heritage and our native place. Based on four characters from Irish Celtic Folklore, the story follows our negative impact on each character in their natural environments through our disconnection with our land and nature. Ending on a positive note, it suggests we find a way to reconnect with our Irish culture, accompanied by my own narration as Gaeilge alongside the song "Eyrie" by Irish musician Jamie Duffy and Peter Sandberg. What started as an organic exploration became a topic I am now deeply passionate about and inspiring that same passion and sense of connection in everyone who watches it is ultimately what I hope to achieve with my work.
