I am Eileen McCarthy an abstract interdisciplinary Contemporary Irish artist. I am a recent graduate of from Limerick School of Art and Design and hold a B.A (Hons) in Fine Art Painting. My passion for art lies in my love of the Irish landscape environment. This body of work was inspired by the lost 1668 Bleach Field landscape in Co. Tipperary as a metaphor to represent the human condition in contemporary society.
Astutely, this collection of artwork records a colonialised period in Irish society but equally, it is solidly rooted in the present. The metaphorical abstract paintings pull the viewer inwards to examine what is lost, what can be vaguely observed and what is concealed connecting it to its heritage, culture and identity.
My mediums are simple natural materials that communicate an authentic aesthetic language on raw linen creating a space which connects the viewer to this landscape. In capturing what is lost but it challenges us to consider our position in the present.
