My name is Aimee Welsh; a textile Designer from County Tyrone, specialising in print design. I mainly focus on digital surface patterns for interiors and fashion, as well as screen printed textiles; in which I dye and prepare pre-printing with the intention of capturing Ireland's beauty and enhancing its appreciation. I design interesting and engaging contemporary designs that incorporate abstract and playful elements. Having travelled around Ireland and experiencing its beauty firsthand, I have been moved by the under appreciation of its landscapes and the artistry within them, as well as Irish culture and its enlightening history. With an unwavering passion for my country, I take great satisfaction in my ability to conduct thorough study on anything that could inspire ideas for future projects, from archival resources to cultural institutions. In addition to studying native Irish creatures, flowers, culture, and ancient Celtic stonework, I retract inspiration from my own photography in relation. Re-drawing landscapes and examining various shapes and patterns within them caters towards the result of fashionable and distinctive collections. With the use of modern editing software, I carry the capability to experiment freely with motifs, accompanied by the approach to extend colour, style and range. I am proficient in a variety of printmaking techniques and have great knowledge of colours and recipes. Techniques like devore and puff paste enrich my appetite towards texture and touch. Knowledgeable about hue and tone, I tend to use a striking colour scheme which unveils contrast between bold and soft tones. I was able to convey the range of feelings I had while travelling and going to several Irish Fleadhs in relation to the vibrant and striking colours, as well as the soft and organic tones; feelings like joy, contentment and gratitude. To blend the old with the new, I also draw inspiration for my colour scheme from my photography and traditional Irish colour schemes from the 1900s. The gentle and natural hues in my collection, which reflect vintage Irish colour schemes, are inspired by my research into vintage Irish posters, apparel, photographs, and other media. My goal as a printed textile designer includes encouraging people of all ages to preserve our nation’s customs, and to reduce the substantial number of Irish immigrants to other, more developed nations like America and Australia. In my opinion Ireland is as equally alluring. In addition, I want to use my position to revive the Irish language and our traditional Irish values while spreading positive attributes throughout our little country. The goal of everything I do is to establish my own brand, which will include my own objectives and distinctive selling proposition. To spread my message throughout Ireland and other nearby nations with comparable problems. As a recent winner of the Belfast School of Art Design Award 2025, I'm looking for other ways to present my work to a larger audience by participating in additional contests and exhibitions, as well as building my knowledge within the design industry as a creative who has impeccable teamwork and communication skills. Following briefs and customer feedback, I am a great asset to any design team.
