In my practice, I use video and painting to convey my strong connection with nature and my experiences with death in the animal world. These themes are combined along with poetry and storytelling to create a video and series of mixed media artworks that intend to make people think about how fragile our connection with nature is while turning something macabre and sad into something beautifully haunting.I use writing to make sense of how I feel. It is also connected to my drawing and painting process. I have included little snippets of poetry in the artwork and video piece. These snippets connect with the depictions of decomposing animals, helping to express my understanding of death while showcasing unflinching emotion.I hope in creating my art that I can show people that death is not something to be feared and is simply the way of the world.
