'Under Scrutiny' - My creative practice is informed by the female experience, exploring female subjectivity and embodiment. I work with the fragmentation of images through expanded photography, installation, projection and printmaking. This particular body of work subverts the power dynamic between the viewer and the work by creating an engulfing immersive and surveillance installation space. The persistent, confronting gaze of the projections meets your own, as the subject and the audience attempt to communicate through steady eye-contact. My collaborative research is centred around interviewing women, listening to the insights of their lived experience. I have chosen to capture the body movement of the women, while we were talking, when I felt that emotion drove conversations/ confessions. The dynamic of the interview was changed to fit the comfort of the interviewee by either keeping a persistent gaze or by breaking it-both my own and the camera's gaze. I created a ripple effect by inviting the audience to answer confronting, subverted questions to the participants. Through strategies, I analyse how women are seen, treated, and understood, opening a dialogue and seeking introspective moments on female subjectivity.
