Freedom from the influence of others, freedom of expression, is worth the risk of chasing. In this work I have restructured different parts of a ship to represent the oppressive power structures we are subjugated to in contemporary society, aiming to create a source of counterpower. The installation consists of the sail, the figurehead and the gaze. The sail acts as a domineering force acting upon the suspended figurehead, restricting it yet relying on it for support. We as the audience are subject to this power dynamic as we are under the weight of these structures. "Look at What I've Done"is an installation which uses the architecture of the building along with heavy influences from 17th century pirate culture and queer culture of today, used to express a direct mocking and reimagining of these powers at play. In my work I aim to discuss what both power and freedom from it are, how something can be influenced or the chaos of which cannot be. A "pirate" is defined by the systems which are larger than them, but I would define them as a person seeking individuality, becoming something other than what they are expected to be. The norm is not there to be upheld and rules will inevitably be broken.
