My work is site- and situation-specific, involving observational practices and systematisation to address matters of articulation and perception. I have found that I need to truly inhabit a space in order to understand my entanglement with it and then acclimatise appropriately. The informational systems and formats that I work with are frequently invisible or only passively engaged with. I ask myself whether I am making a proclamation or simply attuning to the ambience of a given environment. Am I to be listened to, or only peripherally noticed? I question how something ambient might become more discreet, and therefore more visible, or whether it is better honoured through a dissolution of my own presentation. My recent work, & SO ON, is a provisional system informed by the availability of time, studio space and the general outsourcing of aesthetic markers. Each material selection is derived from standard production sizes and remains in relation to them through processes of scale, numerical progression, subtraction and erasure. After exhibition, the work is disassembled and its constituent materials are recirculated. In this material sense, the work continues beyond its exhibition, going on, and on, and so on.
