My work is an abstract response to my surrounding landscape. It explores the colours, textures and shifting moods of this rough yet fragile rural place, highlighting the visual richness and quiet resilience of its threatened ecosystems. I work primarily on fabric, using handmade eco inks extracted from local plants. Fabric is a deliberate choice as canvas. It reflects a landscape that resists boundaries and cannot be confined. Influenced by the soak and stain processes of Helen Frankenthaler and the installations of Sam Gilliam, my approach remains deeply rooted in place. Through slow layering, the marks, textures and tonal variations emerge organically, mirroring the ever-changing untamed nature of the landscape. For me, making is an act of sustained attention and care. Each piece carries the energy and emotion of walking the land, witnessing its vulnerability and strength. The fabric surfaces hold traces of the plants, seasons and my own handling, creating works that invite viewers to feel a deeper connection to the landscape.
