I am a visual artist primarily working in sculpture and installation art. My current practice aims to examine links between body and land using the dwelling as a mutual space and as such an analysis point for their interaction. Much of my work looks at the primordial and spiritual connection we have with the materials that form a dwelling and their function as an extended body. A vital element of my work is the process in which the materials I use are collected – many elements are hand harvested, processed and collected from specific sites. This is in order to strengthen the relationship between the sculptural art object and the earth making them fuller ‘worldly things’. The work through these processes also looks to place the self within the meshwork of the natural environment - not as a new way of being but as an existence prior to their separation. Through the examination of dwelling the work organically tends to consider questions of nationality and heritage while confronting the industrial and urban modern landscape. My practice also draws on the writings of phenomenologists and philosophers Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty and poets Seamus Heaney and John O’Donoghue.
