My graduate animation film RELEASE is about how extreme, pervasive and insistent the beauty and aesthetics industry is. There is a product, treatment or procedure for features or traits that are the most inconsequential parts of your body. RELEASE explores the hypothetical that if one was to remove every area of the body we are told to be insecure about, remove the insecurity at the source, how much would be left? If these extremities became commonplace, accessible and affordable...How much would be left of you? This film was made using several techniques. I collaged photos of friends to mimic how much advertising is warped and manipulates to create unattainable but desired ideals of our bodies. I took photos of Limerick City and used 2.5D to build my backgrounds to distinguish between the everyday life and the desired world. The style takes inspiration from beauty brands, magazines and social media campaigns.
