The thesis explores the potential role of remote working infrastructure in the revitalization of rural Irish towns. The project interrogates the concept of the remote working ‘hub’ infrastructure through a situated case study in the town of Ramelton, Co.Donegal that focuses on the adaptive re-use of vacant and derelict structures.

In anticipation of the increased presence these primarily commercial public infrastructures are going to have in towns across Ireland, the work is concerned with the affordances of the infrastructure as a ‘place of connection’: a socially responsive amenity that not only accommodates for the emerging needs and desires of a public engaged in remote work, but one that also contributes to the wider community and accentuates the inherent social-cultural qualities of the places they inhabit.
