I am a textile artist, using fabrics and stitch to convey the images of childhood terrors, nightmares and phobias. My practice contains the themes of fears whether it be fear within us, or fear presented to us. These are vivid artworks in textiles evoking the primal feelings of dread that simulate childhood phobias. Fabric pieces are cut into familiar forms and beings that are considered comforting, giving them another form and shape, i.e. teddy bears emblazoned with distressing words sewn upon them, screaming the emotions buried inside in each individual stitch. I am breaking through the internal fears to the external world where they can be seen and observed. The invisible becomes visible. The light becomes dark. The unspeakable is spoken. Perfection is not needed, as dreams rarely are.
