Currently in my practice I am exploring work that exists at the intersection of painted abstraction, collage and assemblage. My current works are born of a chaotic and expansive process which develops an 'archive' of materials that I use to seek resolution. These constructions utilise a painterly vocabulary during their inception and once they come to a precipice a requirement for ordered and compositional language becomes activated. The work encompasses elements related to the language of painting, making, constructing, and assembly, utilising stitched canvas as a means of resolution. While these works aim to establish a connection to the art historical canon, they deliberately resist orthodoxy and challenge traditional notions of painting. I am exploring the realm of failed aesthetic and refinement, challenging the preconception that perfection is attainable within the confines of the medium. The marks made in these works are crude, impetuous, and imbued with contained aggression. They seek to capture perfectly imperfect, spontaneous moments of authenticity expressed in paint and selected mediums.
