I directed the film ‘SPOTS’ and it was an absolute pleasure to work on. The experience I had working on this film was enlightening, and a real learning curve. I enjoyed delving and researching into the themes the film tackles, such as growing up as a young girl in the age of the internet, where no matter how you look, you can be ostracised by your peers for being just a little bit out of the norm. It’s quite an important topic to be portraying as it’s necessary to bring light onto the horrors of girlhood and just how critical you can be of yourself when it feels as though everyone is criticising your every move. I really enjoyed combining coming-of-age with the genre of horror as I felt this was the perfect medium to use to show just how intense it can be to grow up nowadays, especially as a girl.
