I am an Irish visual artist who works with photography and 'moving image'. My projects centre around the visual storytelling of hidden narratives, exploring concepts of the unconscious and feminine identity. Psychology and philosophy have always been an interest and influence to me and my practice. My work is inspired by artists who create visually compelling work with deeper meanings; Joanna Piotrowski's "Frowst" and Francesca Woodman's self-portraits, employ different styles of photography, yet uncover similar complex topics regarding the body, identity and relationships. Bill Viola uses video to delve into profound human experiences, particularly seen in "The Raft". Grayson Perry's ceramic creations initially present beautiful pots; however, closer observation reveals his darker narratives, as seen in "We've Found the Body of Your Child." Through the lens, I create metaphysical landscapes, inviting viewers into intimate spaces that blur the boundaries between the real and imaginary, the personal and universal. My work aims to shed light on challenging topics and bring them into the everyday discourse. Photography grants me access to people and places both physically and emotionally, so it is important to me, that I have a responsible and reflective approach to this type of work. This process involves establishing personal connections with the people I photograph. I work through combining premeditation with unconscious intuition.
