I believe an old building creates spectacular sentimentality. A type of wear and tear that only time and experiences can create, giving a sense of untold stories & memories. For my final project at IADT, I wanted to create this sense of storytelling through old, Irish architecture combined with my miniature making skills, learned from working on stop motion sets. This model tells the story of a world facing a fertility crisis. The toy shop went out of business almost a decade ago, due to the enormous decline in births. Lack of maintenance caused a natural decline in the building and the model depicts the toy shop in present day. The purpose of this model is to be used as a stop motion set, so it needed a context interesting enough for film. For this project I wanted to put an emphasis on learning software's like AutoCAD & Illustrator, as well as laser cutting. It was rewarding to develop a new, and very useful skill. I believe my technical approach to art & design has strengthened since completing this project, giving me more refined, accurate results. I adore painting, weathering & texturing, as well as the challenge to achieve patterns & textures on a small scale. I was heavily inspired by three amazing artists during this project. I recommend viewing their work on Instagram if urban miniatures are your thing! Followed by their Instagram accounts, Hank Cheng (cheng.hank), Joshua Smith (joshua_smith_street_artist) & Francesca Passeri (francesca_passeri80).The model is to the scale of 1:12. H 60 x W 110 x D 80cm. Thank you for showing an interest in my work! Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss it further.- Maria Malone
