In my grandmother’s time being frugal was the way of life, nothing was discarded, everything had a purpose or use. From everyday functional objects valued for their usefulness to items kept behind glass in a cabinet valued because of the memories they hold. These days although we are richer in monetary terms, we no longer value objects in the same way, which has led to a throwaway culture. Some of the most common items being thrown away are cut glass and crystal pieces. Once prized for their unrivalled brilliance, placed as ornaments too precious to ever be used, these glass objects are now considered out of fashion, unloved and of no value.Re-establishing a connection with these objects through daily interaction in order to build an attachment has become the basis of my work.
