I am a mixed media painter and printmaker with both areas of my practice informing each other. In my practice I create abstracted landscapes that focus less on representational elements of the landscape and more on the ephemeral organic patterns present in it. I have chronic migraines and sensitive eyes which lead to bright lights and colours affecting me a lot physically causing intense pain and visual distortion. This intensity also draws me into looking more at the lights causing a fascination with these distortions. I work off of my own images taken during these moments combining them together and letting the process recreate this distortion. Process is an integral part of my work, specifically the unpredictability that comes from printmaking. Over final year I focused on monotype screenprint where I would draw directly onto a screen using water-soluble media, I then activate the media with a spray of water and print using transparency. Creating work in this way takes control of the final image away from me and to the print. The final image then looks like a painting but in a way not replicable by other processes/mediums. I also create work by layering together several mediums with different attributes similarly seeking something unpredictable and working in layers as informed by printmaking where colour and depth is built up in different printed layers.
