I am a multidisciplinary artist. I aim to breakdown preconceived ideas about beauty within the grotesque, reversing its fearsome reputation. For as long as I can remember, I've had a fascination that has grown with the anatomical form of all creatures. This interest has always peaked with the human form, my intent being to find what is tissue deep. My work explores the deep realms of nature and culture. I focus my ideas on the subconscious trying to evoke the emotions and try to predominantly cast unease. Ultimately I'm interested in the world within, the psychoanalytical process of pouring ones most uncomfortable emotions into my work as therapy.I am greatly inspired by such artists work as Alice Maher, Dorothy Cross, Emma Brennan and Celina Muldoon.A cross over between various Art practices and performance to best embody the message in this case dealing with the theme of body dysmorphia. This body of work is aimed at the idea of self: Why we have such anxieties about our exterior? Why has photoshopping and altering your face with brutal cosmetic surgeries become common practice? What goes beyond the selfies we portray on social media, and what do we face when we just plainly look at our reflection in the mirror? What are society’s norms and expectations – and how do we challenge these?I use Sculpture, Sewing, Embroidery, Drawing, Installations (incorporating hair, nails, skin) Repurposed Household, Materials, Photography, Painting, Performance and Print as my mediums. Through my practice I aim to create my own domain; proposing my taunted realm of reality to the viewer.
