Through a multidisciplinary approach, my aim was to establish a profound connection between viewers and the intangible qualities of air and breath.
Inspired by birds' graceful flight and delicate movements, I reflected on the beauty and freedom that air provides. However, I am deeply concerned about the growing issue of air pollution. With a desire to raise awareness about the importance of clean air, I created a visual narrative that highlights the delicate balance between human actions, nature, and the air that connects us all.
Incorporating elements of samurai traditions, I drew inspiration from their focused breathing techniques, symbolised by feathers placed under my nose in a series of self-portraits. These feathers represent breath control and the training of my inner samurai spirit, allowing me to transcend into a dream-like state reminiscent of birds.
Continuing the exploration, I made a 9-minute film that invites viewers into my visionary world of air and breath. Through this medium, I immersed them in an ethereal experience.
Additionally, I expressed these themes through monoprints that embody the yin and yang qualities of air and wind. Utilising stencil shadows and monoprints, I emphasised the delicate balance that exists in our world. I recognised the importance of maintaining this equilibrium for a sense of calmness and tranquility, acknowledging that air and breath are fundamental to achieving it.
