I use art as a means to express struggles in my life I find difficult to talk about. I have always wanted to make artwork that people can relate to, artwork that leaves you with a feeling of understanding after viewing it. I often felt lost and left behind as a child. Boiling down all the meaningless fights and hatred, I am just a small girl yearning for her mother's love. My work uses expanding foam as the body of a humanoid spider figure, who represents my mother. Expanding foam is typically used for insulation, to keep a house filled with warmth, much like a motherly figures role in a household. I chose to use spider imagery to symbolise the hidden hard work and resilience one needs to be a 'good' mother. Although my mother has her flaws, which is represented by the startling appearance of a spider, I do not use my personal grudges against her or discredit her from what she has done for the family. I want the viewers to understand that relationships are vulnerable, and no relationship is perfect, but that does not mean you have to abandon it completely.
