I am a visual artist working in installation/assemblage, sculpture, and drawing. I am most interested in how materials and objects communicate beyond language and how meaning emerges through relations rather than direct representation. I seek to create situations (or simulations) in which familiar imagery becomes difficult to categorise, opening space for projection. This year, my work has been influenced in part by Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space. I am interested in the psychological and emotional charge of enclosed spaces: corners, interiors, containers, and places of retreat. Objects here are made to be encased, or subtly blocked off. Cats have become a recurring point of reference within the work, mostly for their instinct to inhabit spaces regardless of scale or suitability, but also for broader cultural associations with womanhood/girlhood. I think of each piece in this room to live as though they are characters, personas, and vessels of mutual exchange between both each other, and viewer.
