I am a Belfast-based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in sculpture and ceramics. Rooted in feminist theory, my practice uses material form to confront silence, often addressing social issues through subtle, embodied activism. My recent work, "Twenty Two.", is both elegy and outcry, a visual response to the rise in Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Northern Ireland. The installation consists of twenty-two ceramic totems, each representing a life lost to femicide between September 2021 and December 2024. Their heights correspond to the age of each victim, ranging from one to eighty-one years old, offering a silent yet powerful testimony to the lives interrupted. Through this physical embodiment of data, I aim to transform abstract statistics into tangible, emotive sculptures. Drawing from the idea of the body as a vessel for the soul, I used a combination of hand-building, throwing, and sculpting techniques to imbue each piece with an abstract female form, each holding memory, grief, and presence. I wanted this work to transform statistics into physical testimony, inviting viewers to stand among the forms, to feel their weight, their stillness, and their sorrow. "Twenty Two." is not just about remembrance, it is a call to action. Through clay, I aim to create spaces where loss becomes visible and silence is no longer an option. For me, visual art is about not only expression, but it is a force for awareness, empathy, and change.
