I am a visual artist working primarily with paint from the West of Ireland. I explore human intimacy and fleeting moments within my work. My painting practice delves into the quiet, intimate moments that exist both in solitude and between individuals. Often set in beds and domestic spaces, my figures are frequently depicted lying down or curled up, creating a sense of vulnerability and privacy. These moments, sometimes voyueristic in nature, offer a subtle glimpse into intimate, everyday experiences. I particularly explored the notion of waiting and the inherent anxiety humans experience in periods of unknown waiting. I focus on the materiality of paint and refining what I want to include in the image. Often elements of drawing are present in my paintings, alluding to a sense of immediacy as if the image were to slip away. The focus is not on conceptual narrative, but rather on the physicality of paint, the tension between figuration and abstraction, and the emotive power of materials themselves. The figures and environments I create are not just subjects, but integral parts of a larger dialogue between texture, colour and form. Each painting is connected by a shared presence of figures, settings, or a cohesive colour palette, allowing my work to feel unified while still embracing individuality in each piece. The paintings reflect a delicate balance of abstraction and representation, inviting the viewer into a space where the familiar becomes a place of emotional resonance and introspection.
