I grew up with a love for theatre, music and live performance which was instilled in me from every generation of my family. When it came to my final year film, I knew I wanted to create something which celebrated my love for music and the importance of family. Ghost Light is a film about music, grief, and how we carry on the legacy of those we have lost. Mourning the loss of her grandmother, a young pianist returns to the theatre she once performed in. Taking to the forgotten stage to play her grandmother’s composition, she fills the auditorium with one last melody. My favourite films are those which explore themes which are difficult to comprehend, such as death and grief, in ways that give the audience hope. In my work, I explore how we can keep our loved ones with us through shared creative pursuit, and though experiencing loss is something deeply impactful, we can still find ways to celebrate life.
