‘Seen, Not Heard’ at the Crawford Art Gallery examines the representations of children by Irish artists and in Irish art collections ranging from the 18th century to the present. The exhibition examines what these visual representations tell us about how the role of the child has evolved within Ireland and the wider society, the challenging perspectives of the artist and viewer, and encourages the audience to reflect on their own perceptions of childhood. To encourage these interactive reflections, the upper gallery will be transformed into an experimental, project-based playroom for the duration of the exhibition.
Seen, Not Heard: 28 June – 28 October
